<철콘 근크리트>, <해수의 아이>로 유명한 STUDIO 4℃의 극장판 애니메이션으로, 한스 크리스티안 안데르센의 ‘인어공주’를 독창적으로 재해석한 판타지 로맨틱 코미디다. 인간과 인어가 공존하는 미래 사회, 선박 제조회사에서 일하는 평범하고 소심한 직장인 ‘스테판’은 어느 날 갑자기 인어 왕국의 공주 ‘차오’의 청혼을 받는다.
처음에 스테판은 인어 아내를 거부하지만 인간계와 인어계의 갈등 해소를 위해 정략적으로 결혼을 하게 되고, 기상천외한 동거가 시작된다. 좌충우돌 사건사고가 끊이지 않는 가운데 스테판은 점차 차오가 자신에게 청혼한 이유를 깨달아간다.

Set in a future society where humans and mermaids coexist, the story follows Stephan, an ordinary and timid office worker employed by a shipbuilding company. His uneventful life is suddenly turned upside down when Chao, a princess from the Mermaid Kingdom, unexpectedly proposes marriage to him. Though Stephan initially rejects the idea of having a mermaid bride, political tensions between the human and mermaid worlds lead to an arranged marriage designed to ease the conflict. What follows is an outrageous and unpredictable cohabitation filled with misunderstandings, mishaps, and chaos. Amid the turmoil, Stephan gradually comes to understand the true reason behind Chao’s proposal.
Produced over seven years and featuring more than 100,000 hand-drawn illustrations, the film pushes the flat, expressive qualities of traditional cel animation to their limits. In an era dominated by visual media striving for realism, it boldly moves in the opposite direction, embracing imagination, stylization, and artistic freedom.

1980년대 말부터 애니메이터로서 수많은 작품에 참여했으며, 2000년대 이후에는 그림 콘티・연출도 맡는다.
STUDIO4°C의 <애니매트릭스>(2003)의 원화, <변덕쟁이 로봇>(2004), <마법소녀대 아루스>(2004)의 각 화 연출 등을 거쳐, 옴니버스(2006)의 한 편이자 코다 쿠미의 곡과 콜라보한 <설령 네가 온 세상의 적이 된다 해도>를 감독.
기타 감독작으로는 <배트맨: 고담 나이트>(2008)의 한 편인 [어둠 속에서] 등이 있다.는 대망의 첫 감독 장편.
