제목인 SEAGNAL은 SEA(바다)와 SIGNAL(신호)의 합성어로, 바다를 단순히 바라보는 공간이 아닌 끊임없이 신호를 보내는 살아있는 존재로 그려낸다. 약 2년에 걸쳐 7개국 11명의 해양환경 전문가와 활동가들의 이야기를 담아낸 이 작품은 실제 폐플라스틱 수거 현장과 심해 탐사, 고래와의 조우까지 기록하며 해양오염과 기후위기, 생물다양성 감소라는 거대한 문제를 전 세계 바다의 목소리를 통해 들려준다.

The title 《SEAGNAL》 is a portmanteau of “SEA” and “SIGNAL,” reflecting the film’s vision of the ocean not as a passive landscape to be observed, but as a living entity constantly sending messages to those willing to listen. Filmed over the course of nearly two years, the documentary brings together the voices of eleven marine environmental experts and activists from seven countries. From plastic waste cleanup operations and deep-sea expeditions to encounters with whales, the film captures the realities of marine pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss through stories emerging from oceans around the world.

Rather than simply exposing crises or offering easy solutions, SEAGNAL quietly observes lives intertwined with the sea. A marine acoustician in Spain, a haenyeo diver in Jeju, a fisherman in Mexico, and an environmental activist in the Seychelles—though separated by geography and culture, they are united by their ability to sense, interpret, and document change in the marine environment.

The film suggests that the ocean has always been communicating with us—not only through visible transformations, but also through sounds, rhythms, and subtle shifts that often go unnoticed. The signals were there all along. The question is whether we have been listening.
