한 생물을 사랑하게 되면 어떤 일이 벌어질까. 이탈리아 사진작가 이스마엘레는 늑대물고기에 홀렸다.
켈프숲의 제왕, 북극 바다의 아이콘. 그 한 장면을 찍기 위해 북극의 겨울 바다로 뛰어들었다.
그러나 바닷속에서 그가 마주한 것은 상상과 달랐다. 켈프숲은 사라지고, 성게만 가득한 황량한 해저. 늑대물고기는 그 한가운데 초라하게 누워 있었다.
꿈을 찾아 떠난 여정이 예상치 못한 곳으로 그를 이끈다. 상상을 현실로 만들기 위해 애쓰는 노력. 그게 바로 진심으로 사랑한다는 뜻이다.

What happens when you fall in love with a single species? Italian photographer Ismaele became captivated by the wolffish.
The ruler of the kelp forest, an icon of Arctic waters—he plunged into the freezing winter seas of the Arctic in search of the perfect image.
But what he encountered beneath the surface was far different from what he had imagined. The lush kelp forests had vanished, replaced by barren seafloors crowded with sea urchins.
And there, in the middle of it all, lay the wolffish, diminished and alone.
What began as a journey to fulfill a dream led him somewhere unexpected. In the end, the film reveals that true love is more than admiration—it is the willingness to pursue a vision, confront reality, and keep searching even when the truth is difficult to face. That is what it means to care deeply for something.

이즈마엘레 토르텔라는 노르웨이 북부 트롬쇠를 기반으로 활동하는 다큐멘터리 감독이자 야생 촬영감독이다.
그는 야생 사진작가로 커리어를 시작해 국제 매거진에 포토저널리즘을 발표했으며, 니콘, 내셔널지오그래픽, 포토 몽티에, 네이처 나뮈르 등 국제 사진 공모전에 이름을 올렸다.
현재는 프리랜서 촬영감독이자 드론 파일럿으로 BBC 자연사 유닛(BBC NHU), 실버백, 플림솔, 딥씨, 독라이트 등 국내외 제작사와 협업하고 있으며, BBC Studios, 넷플릭스, 내셔널지오그래픽, SVT, NDR, ORF 등 다양한 플랫폼을 통해 방영되는 다큐멘터리에 참여하고 있다.
Ismaele Tortella is a documentary filmmaker and wildlife cinematographer based in Tromsø, Northern Norway. He began his career as a wildlife photographer, publishing photojournalistic work in international magazines and earning recognition in prestigious photography competitions organized by Nikon, National Geographic, Montier Photo Festival, and Nature Namur.
Today, Tortella works as a freelance cinematographer and drone pilot, collaborating with leading production companies including the BBC Natural History Unit (BBC NHU), Silverback Films, Plimsoll Productions, Deep Sea Productions, and Doclights. His work has contributed to documentaries broadcast on major international platforms and networks such as BBC Studios, Netflix, National Geographic, SVT, NDR, and ORF.
