나선 속에 우주가 있다. 레오나르도 다빈치가 발견한 황금비율, 해바라기 씨앗의 배열, 은하의 나선팔등 자연이 가장 좋아하는 이 패턴은 바다 속 가장 작은 존재에서 시작됐다.

남아프리카의 두 대양이 만나는 해안. 이곳에서 자연은 수억 년에 걸쳐 조용히 조각해온 작품들을 내보낸다. 포식자를 속이는 위장, 파도를 견디는 구조, 짝을 찾아 모래 위를 항해하는 여정.
그리고 끝내 부서져 모래가 된다. 우리가 밟는 해변은 그렇게 사라진 삶들로 이루어져 있다.

우리에게 조개는 다른 존재감없이 그저 해산물이거나 기념품에 불과였지만 이 작품 이후는 누구보다 열심히 삶을 살아낸 생명이라는 것을 알게 될 것이다.

There is a universe within a spiral. The golden ratio discovered by Leonardo da Vinci, the arrangement of sunflower seeds, and the spiral arms of galaxies all reflect a pattern that nature seems to favor above all others—and it begins with some of the ocean’s smallest creatures.

Along the coast of South Africa, where two oceans meet, nature reveals creations it has been quietly sculpting for hundreds of millions of years: camouflage designed to deceive predators, structures built to withstand relentless waves, and remarkable journeys across the sand in search of a mate.

Eventually, these lives come to an end, their shells breaking apart and becoming sand. The beaches beneath our feet are, in many ways, made from the remains of countless lives that once struggled, adapted, and endured.

To many of us, shells have been little more than seafood, souvenirs, or decorative objects. Yet after watching this film, it becomes impossible to see them the same way. Each shell stands as the trace of a life lived with extraordinary persistence—a small but remarkable creature that fought harder than we ever imagined to survive.
