바다를 항해하던 어부는 폭풍우에 배를 잃고 어느 해안에서 눈을 뜬다. 떠밀려온 건 어부만이 아니다.
어부는 해안에서 어미 고래와 아기 고래의 사체를 발견한다. 어부가 사체에 박힌 작살을 뽑자 고래는 마치 영혼이 된 듯 하늘로 떠오른다.

검은 파도 아래에서 모습을 드러낸 해양 생물들의 향연은 장송곡을 연주하듯 엄숙하면서도 황홀하다.
대사 없이 진행되는 흑백 에니메이션은 인간에게 보내는 경고와 바다 생명에 보내는 애도의 메시지를 담고 있다.

마술적 리얼리즘과 생태적 상상력이 교차하는 이 작품은 바다를 인간의 터전이 아닌 생명을 가진 한 존재로 보여준다.
어부는 비극적 죽음의 유일한 목격자인가. 영화가 끝난 뒤에도 한동안 고래의 송가가 귓가에 남는다면 우리 역시 그 비극의 목격자라 해도 좋을까.

A fisherman sailing at sea loses his boat in a violent storm and awakens on an unfamiliar shore. Yet he is not the only one cast ashore.
Along the coastline, he discovers the bodies of a mother whale and her calf. When he pulls a harpoon from the whale’s flesh, the creature seems to rise into the sky like a liberated spirit.

Beneath the dark waves, a procession of marine life emerges. Solemn yet mesmerizing, they move as though performing a requiem for the dead. Told entirely without dialogue, this striking black-and-white animation delivers both a warning to humanity and an elegy for the lives lost at sea.

Blending magical realism with ecological imagination, the film presents the ocean not as a resource for human use, but as a living being in its own right. Is the fisherman the sole witness to this tragic death? Or, if the whale’s song continues to linger long after the screen fades to black, might we too become witnesses to the tragedy?
