내게 기후변화에 대한 경각심을 가장 먼저 알려준 생명체는 산호초였다. 언젠가 색을 잃고 하얗게 변해버린 산호초의 모습이 세상에 알려지면서, 형형색색의 바다를 되찾기 위한 사람들의 노력이 시작되었다. 《코랄 인 포커스》는 기후변화의 최전선인 피지의 바다를 배경으로 과학자와 다이버, 스마트폰 엔지니어, 지역 공동체가 함께 펼치는 산호 복원 프로젝트를 기록한다. 새로운 수중 촬영 기술과 3D 모델링을 통해 사람들은 산호의 변화를 기록하고, 열에 강한 산호를 심으며 사라져가는 바다를 되살리기 위한 희망을 이어간다.

"볼 수 있다면, 지킬 수 있다." 환경단체 Seatrees와 삼성의 협력으로 제작된 이 작품은 기술이 단순한 도구를 넘어 바다를 이해하고 보호하는 새로운 방법이 될 수 있음을 보여준다. 사라져가는 색을 다시 초점 안으로 불러오는 사람들에 대한 희망의 기록.

What cannot be seen is easily forgotten.

The first living organism that made me truly aware of the urgency of climate change was the coral reef. When images of once-vibrant corals turning pale and white were shared with the world, efforts to restore the ocean’s colors began to take shape. Coral in Focus documents a coral restoration project in the waters of Fiji, one of the frontlines of climate change, where scientists, divers, smartphone engineers, and local communities work together toward a common goal. Through innovative underwater imaging technology and 3D modeling, they monitor changes in coral ecosystems, cultivate heat-resistant corals, and sustain hope for reviving a disappearing underwater world.

“If we can see it, we can save it.” Produced through a collaboration between the environmental organization Seatrees and Samsung, this film demonstrates how technology can become more than just a tool—it can serve as a new way of understanding and protecting the ocean. A hopeful record of those striving to bring fading colors back into focus.
