The Mediterranean Sea makes up one percent of the earth’s watery world, yet 30 percent of the world’s shipping plies its waters. Natural life on and beneath its surface pays the price. Sei whales, Bluefin tuna, and seagrass, which is found nowhere else and is the planet’s oldest life form, are all negatively affected by the Sea’s legion of users. Measures have been taken to protect the tuna and sea grass. Thoughtful narration and superb cinematography raise the question: Are these and other measures enough to save all the sea's threatened species?

런던에서 음반사에 다니는 다니엘은 잉글랜드 콘월 지역에서 어부들이 부르는 노래를 듣게 된다. 다니엘은 이들과 음반 계약을 맺기 위해 바닷가에 머무르는데, 명성이나 돈보다 우정과 공동체를 중시하는 어부들의 가치관에 감명을 받고 그들과 친구가 된다. 그러나 이들의 뱃노래가 음반으로 나오기까지는 여러 난관이 기다리고 있다.
2010년에 유니버설사에서 음반을 낸 ‘피셔맨즈 프렌드’ 밴드의 실화를 바탕으로 한 영화로, 아이작 항구의 아름다운 풍광과 청정한 뱃노래 속에 어부들의 희노애락이 여실히 담겨 있다.

 

Daniel Mays, who works for record label in London, hears a song sung by fishermen in Cornwall, England. Daniel stays on the beach to sign a record deal with them. He is impressed by the fishermen who value friendship and community over fame or money and becomes friends with them. However, many obstacles await before their ‘Shanties’ is released as an album.
The film is based on the true story of the band ‘Fisherman’s Friends’, which was released by Universal Music in 2010. The beautiful scenery of Port Isaac and the uncontaminated shanties contain the joy, anger, sorrow and pleasure of fishermen.

1991년에 시작된 새만금간척사업은 총 44km에 이르는 방조제를 조성해 이 권역을 글로벌 자유무역 중심지로 개발하는 대규모 국책사업이다. 30년째 계속되고 있는 이 사업으로 인해 갯벌의 생태계는 파괴되었고, 지역주민들의 생활도 피폐해졌다. 그런데 놀랍게도 이 지역에 아직 생명이 살아 숨쉬고 있는 갯벌이 남아있었으니, 바로 ‘수라’다. 새만금시민생태계조사단은 지난 20년간 이 곳을 관찰하며 법정보호종 40종이 살고 있음을 밝혀냈다. 그러나 이 바다생물의 보고(寶庫)는 신공항 건설로 인해 다시 사라질 위기를 맞고 있다. 오직 ‘아름다움을 본 죄’ 때문에 수라를 지키고자 하는 사람들은 관객들도 함께 증인이 되어주기를 바라고 있다.

 

The Saemangeum Reclamation Project, which began in 1991, is a large-scale national project to develop the region into a global center for free trade by creating a total of 44 km of seawall. This project has destroyed the ecosystem and impoverished the local residents. Surprisingly, there is still a tidal flat where life is still alive, ‘Sura’. However, this treasure trove of sea creatures is in danger of disappearing again due to the construction of a new airport. Those who want to protect Sura only because of the ‘sin of seeing beauty’ hope that the audience will also become witnesses.

A 12-year-old girl, ‘Pakis’ from the Bajo tribe in Wakatobi, believes that her father who left by boat will return. However, no matter how much she looks with the mirror her father gave her, her father's figure does not appear. While Parkis' mother is concerned about her daughter's obsession with her mirror, she is ashamed of herself as she keeps falling for young man who has been staying at her house for a while.
The director shows her ability to create small smiles amid calm sadness and an extraordinary talent for weaving the human psychology and the attributes of objects. The first feature film by Kamila Andini, who gained international fame with “Uni” (2021) and “Nana” (2022).

오랜만에 만난 두 자매, 드류와 메이가 아름답고 외진 바다로 다이빙 트립을 떠난다. 완벽한 장소를 찾아 바다의 심연으로 들어간지 얼마 되지 않았을 때, 해저 28미터에서 메이의 몸이 바위에 끼는 사고가 발생한다. 산소량과 체온은 떨어져만 가는데, 드류는 온갖 방법을 다 써보지만 결국 스스로를 위험에 빠뜨리거나 메이를 구하는 것 이외에는 방법이 없음을 깨닫는다.
한정된 공간과 인물로 강도 높은 공포를 선사하는 작품. 차가운 바다와 뜨거운 자매애가 충돌하며 관객들을 사고 현장으로 끌어들인다.

 

Two sisters, Drew and May, who met after a long time, go on a diving trip to the beautiful and remote sea. Not long after entering the depths of the sea in search of the perfect spot, an accident occurs when May's body is caught on a rock at 28 meters under the sea. While oxygen levels and body temperature continue to drop, Drew tries everything possible, but eventually realizes that there is no other way than to put herself in danger or save May.
A work that presents intense fear with limited space and characters. The cold sea and the hot sisterhood collide and draw the audience to the scene of the accident.

However, he was saved by a mermaid who emitted light from the sea. To find her, the fisherman searched tirelessly, but all he found was a mischievous old woman waiting for him. This is a mysterious story that takes place against the backdrop of Suldo, a tourist attraction in Ulsan Dong-gu, where it is said “the sound of a Komungo which is a Korean lute could be heard when the waves and the wind collide with the rocks.”

Surfing is illegal in Cuba. Despite this, some surfers there bear the tattoo “Never Stop Surfing” and a small group of passionate surfers are seeking to legitimize surfing by attempting to work with the government – and without it. Lacking proper materials and equipment to make surfboards, they find ingenious and resourceful ways to discreetly catch the waves while the rest of the world beckons. These surfers understand that their heart is in their home country, but also that surfing has become an Olympic sport. To this day the struggle continues to make surfing “libre” in Havana.

Tyler Wilde is a bodysurfer and physical education teacher in Manhattan Beach, CA. When Tyler discovered the sport of bodysurfing and joined the “Gillis Beach Bodysurfing Association” he was faced with challenges of personal sex change and acceptance, both physical and emotional. Unexpectedly, Tyler’s classroom students and surfing friends provided Tyler with inspiration and support while he reconciled with his new identity.

Seeing a pod of dolphins for the first time jolts Steve Truluck awake from his office-bound life. Seeing out his front window a sperm whale do a full breach makes Truluck still want more. Noticing his enthusiasm, a tour-boat captain asks him to be his guide, especially for spotting orcas, who visit the islands from Iceland every year. They get up close and personal with the animals underwater, and tell a rare story of peaceful coexistence between humans and sharks – a story that we can take something away from.
